During your master's studies, you will be required to write academic essays, research projects, and finally your  thesis. Therefore, it is important to keep in mind the following:

  • Academic essays are not written to entertain.
  • They are usually written to inform and fill a gap in knowledge.
  • They address problems or questions.
  • Your job is to identify one or more specific problem(s) or question(s) to address in your paper.
  • Once you choose a topic, you need to develop a research question out of it.
  • You might want to focus on a certain problem, gender, age group, or location.
